The Okanagan is gaining a solid reputation throughout North America as one of British Columbia's finest downhill ski destinations, featuring legendary champagne powder snow. Whether you ski or snowboard, the regions's four major ski facilities are ideal for individual and group needs. Big White receives more than six metres (24 feet) of snow annually and is the largest of the region's ski resorts, encompassing 2,765 acres of prime terrain. Fifteen lifts, including five high-speed quads, to keep line-ups to a minimum, moving up to 25,400 skiers per hour and a $127.9-million expansion plan is now in the works. A host of the Canadian Snowboard Championships, Big White is fast-becoming one of North America's riding capitals. When the day is done, the village offers a variety of restaurants serving international cuisine, in addition to several nightclubs and bars. Silver Star Mountain is located just outside of Vernon, featuring two mountain faces and a 2,500-foot vertical drop. A total of 107 runs grace 2,725 acres of land. The charming, pedestrian-only village offers convenient ski-in, ski-out access to a wealth of amenities for visiotrs of all ages. Crystal Mountain is the ideal family fun hill. It offers optimum conditions and is equipped with three lifts, a cafeteria and a rental shop. Perfect for the budget-conscious and beginner to intermediate snowboarder, Crystal Mountain is a 50-minute drive from Kelowna. Apex Mountain is located 15 minutes from Penticton, and offers everything from dogsledding and snowshoeing to excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding. The facility has five lifts, including a high-speed quad and 67 runs of varying skill levels, set on 1112 acres.
