Wild Apple Grill – Achieves Top Honours For Fine Dining

Kelowna, BC – The Wild Apple Grill at Manteo Waterfront Resort and Villas was named the Okanagan’s finest place to dine this year in an annual assessment of 500 restaurants throughout the Okanagan Valley.
 
The ‘Fine Dining’ award was presented to Manteo Resort, Executive Chef, Reinhard Foerderer and his team. The award from the B.C. Restaurant & Foodservice Association recognized the Wild Apple Grill for exceptional food and atmosphere, but also because Manteo Resort excels in community involvement, industry leadership, training and education.
 
The Wild Apple Grill will now be considered for the fine dining distinction award by the Association province-wide. Any day of the year, the kitchen is a buzz of creative energy as chefs-in-training get ‘real world’ experience in the culinary arts as part of Manteo Resort’s quality commitment.
 
Foerderer, a sub-instructor and member of the Okanagan University College Apprenticeship Advisory Committee, has maintained a hands-on program of cooking instruction with groups of 15 students for the last four years. The training offered at the Wild Apple Grill is unique in the Okanagan, offering students the opportunity to earn their journeyman papers and gain actual cooking experience as they learn.
 
The honours were heaped on the Wild Apple Grill just as Foerderer was unveiling his unique summer cuisine selections. For the summer repast, Foerderer is implementing a delicious array of seafood- oriented dishes. He has added a number of low carb options and is accenting it all with lighter sauces and chutney salsas."We always aim to be distinctive," he says, and the award from his contemporaries crowns his success. "The dishes we prepare are unique to the Wild Apple Grill. We offer an ethnically-oriented selection that’s Pacific Northwest cuisine with a twist." Foerderer says restaurant guests will find a fusion-type of cuisine reflecting the broad spectrum of food choice to be found in Canada. "There are many different influences from Thai to traditional Canadian heritage and European food styles, but all are presented in a framework that is still a comfortable taste experience for everyone."
 
The Wild Apple Grill offers Resort guests a delectable mélange of the finest fresh ingredients, accented by a spectacular lakeside setting. "We deliver a menu that showcases an international array of flavorful and creative dishes," Foerderer says. "We’ve developed a selection of traditional favourites with unique twists and we regularly introduce new and distinctive items." "It’s also always been our objective to expose the wines of the Okanagan to our guests in interesting ways," Foerderer adds. With a large selection of local wines on-hand, Manteo Resort is able to present unrivalled meal pairing with Okanagan wines of all varieties.
 
Monthly menu features at the Wild Apple Grill include specially prepared dishes to accompany the wines from a specific Okanagan winery. "We highlight not only variety in our food but also how well Okanagan wines compliment so many different dishes."As well, Foerderer and his team participate in many wine festival events in both spring and fall, including wine pairing dinners, a Masters of Food and Wine culinary celebration in the fall, and a highly popular signature event titled "Spicy Blues".
 
Guests at Manteo Resort can savour the Okanagan’s incredible summers along with the restaurant’s unparalleled cuisine at Kelowna’s only waterfront resort. The Wild Apple Grill undertook a patio expansion this spring, nearly doubling its size to provide outdoor seating for 120. The 85-seat restaurant features a custom-designed, open-concept kitchen where Foerderer’s talented team performs their cooking magic amid expansive 180-degree views of Okanagan Lake.
 
The comprehensive breakfast menu features traditional favourites like the Continental, Eggs Benedict, Buttermilk Pancakes and thick-slice French toast. But that is where standard ends and the famous Manteo-style of dining begins. Guests can choose unique items like Veggie Frittata with sautéed mushrooms and grilled red pepper, or a warm flour tortilla stuffed with ham, scrambled eggs, lettuce, tomato, aged cheddar and sour cream.

 
For lunch, the Wild Apple Grill offers specialty items like Crab Ravioli, Grilled Vegetable and Garlic Quesadilla and a Chicken Club Sandwich. Alternatively, "lunch-sized" Salmon, Fall off the Bone BBQ Ribs and New York Steak entrées are certain to satisfy. The restaurant also offers an impressive list of signature soups and salads.
 
Appetizers are as tempting as entrées at dinnertime. Manteo Resort guests have an astounding array of palate-pleasing choices, and all can be accompanied with fine Okanagan and imported wines. Foerderer has made famous appetizer selections such as Manteo’s Signature Grilled Vegetable Bruschetta, Brie, Roasted Garlic and Sun Dried Tomato Phyllo, and Heaven on the Half Shell. The entrées range from Prawn & Scallop Stirfry with sesame ginger sauce, to Baked Salmon with Red Thai Curry Sauce, Grilled New York Steak or Herb Crusted Chicken with Roma Tomato Confit.
 
For children, the Wild Apple Grill offers all the dining "musts" – cheese or pepperoni pizza, hot dogs, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, pasta, and kid-sized soups and salads. Next to the restaurant, guests can relax in the "comfy lounge" for cocktails accompanied by selections from a mouth-watering lounge and tapas menu that has offerings like Creamy Warm Crab Dip, Thai Steamed Green Lip Mussels and Chicken Skewers.
 
The Manteo Resort team is broadly experienced in handling meetings as well and the extensive list of menu selections can be adjusted to suit the unique needs of any group. The Wild Apple Grill is open seven days a week, 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Group reservations can be made in advance and full banquet and catering services for special events, meetings and conferences are readily available.
