Modern Okanagan Lakeside Luxury

The evolution of 3762 Lakeshore Road harkens back to 1953. That year a humble, yet perfectly located hotel sprang from the sand on Lake Okanagan. It was the original Beacon Beach Resort built by Fred and Grace Duggan.

The Duggans successfully ran the resort for 7 years before selling it in 1960. By this time, Beacon Beach was gaining momentum as a hip place to stay and play. New owners Milt Applebaum, (an investor from Seattle) and Roy Duggan (Fred’s brother) continued to provide the perfect experience for making memories.

Eventually purchased by Bill and Marion Bilida, the Beacon Beach Resort’s reputation continued to grow, as did Kelowna. The Okanagan was establishing itself as the warm, fruit bearing, lake loving, hospitable interior of British Columbia. Years of fun ensued. And the word spread of the Okanagan’s beauty and laid back residents.

Okanagan's Finest

Fast forward to 1994, and the old Beacon Beach Resort was purchased by local development company, Rykon. This award-winning visionary developer transformed the old landmark vacation property, into one of the region’s primary resort destinations.

With the addition of modern spacious villas, beautiful landscaping and docking facilities, this very attractive, very colorful time share opportunity soon became the Okanagan’s finest waterfront resort and hotel.

Luxury & Service

Such was the beginning of today’s Manteo where guest have enjoyed the highest standards of luxury and service through thoughtful amenities, conference services, incomparable lakeside dining and cocktail bars.

But wait. The best was still to come.

After 22 years, Rykon announced it would sell Manteo Resort to Argus Properties. Not an easy decision for Rykon, says CEO Adrian Block.

“The prospect of selling Manteo Resort was not an easy process. I am thrilled, however, to pass it on to a group I know will ensure its continued success for our guests, long-term colleagues and the hotel itself.”

A New Future

So, in March of 2016, Manteo Resort joined the Argus Property Hospitality Group of Hotels, led by local businessman and entrepreneur Ted Callahan.

“We feel very fortunate to have this opportunity that may only come along once in a generation. Manteo Resort is a great asset to Kelowna and, in harmony with the Hotel Eldorado, (already owned and operated by Argus Properties) we are honored to be able to showcase these lakeside destinations both within our community and to international visitors.”
